Before forming Toto the members of the group did sessions for Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts,[4Seals and Crofts,[4] Boz Scaggs and Sonny and Cher. [5] Guitarist Steve Lukather is the band's vocalist.
About Toto

Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also well-known studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The name of the group came from the Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every musical style.
In 1981, Toto's third album Turn Back is a failure However, they resurface with their fourth album Isolation that features two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and the tour helped them become a household name across the globe.
After a short hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is a departure from the ballads that were featured on previous albums, and features some heavy rock. The album was their first album to go platinum in North America.
When they record the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and is put in financial difficulty. They decide to record a new album and change their name with an alternative producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, is now replacing Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph is an easier frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.
In 1999, the band released Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour around the world. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes an original cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band's cover of their hit Africa on the recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
